What are the major symptoms of Diabetes(any type)?
I haven't been feeling myself lately and diabetes runs in my family. I do plan on seeing the doctor, but would like a little heads up.
To Gizz: Thanks for the heads up, but I'm not overweight, so no offense taken. There are plenty of people with type 2 diabetes that are not overweight, I'm sure you see them daily. Thanks 4 your posting.

Extreme thirst, I'm not talking about running around the house now I'm thirsty, but you will be really thirsty always. Constant urination and rapid weight lose or gain in some cases. Aslo you may just feel somewhat icky, kinda dizzy.

I would suggest checking out the website

They give a great and complete list of symptoms for each individual type one at a time.
Hope that helps!

I don't know about Type II, but my little sister has Type I. Her symptoms were frequent urination with a very strong smell, vomiting, dizziness, and tiredness. She felt very much like she had a stomach flu. That frequent urinating though is a key symptom. Extreme weight loss will also occur. My sister lost 14 pounds in two weeks. If these sound like your symptoms, go to the doctor right away! When we finally brought my sister to the hospital, we were told that if we had waited five more minutes she could have gone into a diabetic coma. So, please be careful.

Extreme thirst. The day I was diagnosed I drank 2 gallons of water in 4 hours. Since it is in your family, borrow someones monitor and test your blood sugar. Anyone with diabetes can tell you how good or bad your test is dependiong on what you ate.

I dont have diabetes but my sister and father have it and they said that one of the symptoms was that they were very, very thirsty and had to drink water all the time. Are you thirsty alot…more than usual?

The three cardinal signs of diabetes mellitus are polydipsia (excessive thirst), polyphagia (excessive hunger) and polyuria (excessive peeing). There can be other symptoms as well, but all three of these symptoms are always present to make a diagnosis. Along with a fasting blood sugar of above 11.

Greets,
Obesity is the most common cause of type 2 Diabetes. I have noticed the other 7 post's have not mentioned this condition. No offence. Lose weight, excersise, and eat healthy. Most people like to skirt the weight issue. I may not gain point's with the other poster's, but I am a health care professional, and I deal with it day in and day out.
Peace, Gizz
