Question about Gestational Diabetes?

I was Diagnosed with Gestational Diabetes, the doctor said I should follow a diet plan so that I wont have to take any insulin, I asked him what he thought my persentage was of not having a cesarean section, cause usually women with G diabetes have a c-section due to the baby being to big. I dont want a c-section Im scared to death of them this is my first pregnancy and he said I have a 50% chance of having one if I dont follow my diet plan. How many of you had Gestational diabetes that needed a C- section?

I am currently pregnant 27 weeks with GD. I asked my doctor the same question and got a slightly different answer. I have a sister who looks just like me she had 4 kids the smallest was 9lb6oz the largest 12lb8oz, (she never had GD) she delivered the smallest (which was the first) by section and the largest natural. My doctor said I should be perfectly able to delivery naturally (based on genetics) even if the baby is as big as they think it will be, 9 1/2 lbs. Following the diet will keep you off meds and help keep the size of the baby lower, but also following it will keep other complications the baby can have with sugar after it is born. If you are a really tiny person you could have a c-section on a 6 pounder. Just follow the diet and relax, If you let your Dr know you want to avoid a section unless the baby is in danger they should follow your direction. That is what I agreed with my Dr.

I had Gestational Diabetes with my 2nd child she came out the normal way! I followed the diet and she was born normal even when my first child was a C-section. Talk to your doctor and see if it is possible to deliver normal when your closer to your due date. Things can change!

I had gestational diabetes with my first (26 weeks preggerz w/ second girl) and my first was born 8lbs 4oz…normal. If you follow the diet and try not to gain a lot of weight you'll be fine. Next time you get an ultrasound ask if they can tell you how big the baby is. They did an
ultrasound towards the end of my pregnancy and decided to induce at 38 weeks. They will keep an eye on it, I wouldn't worry. I had to take insulin shots in my stomach it's no biggy, it's just gets annoying at times. Good Luck! May god bless.

I had gestational diabetes and I followed the diet because the thought of taking insulin scared me. I had a planned c-section because my daughter was breech. I was nervous about having a c-section, but after having it done, I am planning on having one again with this pregnancy. Most women I have talked to that have had both, actually prefer the c-section. They all agreed that although the recovery was longer, it was easier. Did you go for diabetic counseling, or just get a diet plan from your doctor? I would advise making an appointment with a diabetic counselor to educate you on gestational diabetes. It helped me. The hospital where I delivered offered the counseling. Good luck.

…long answer to "I have been diagnosed with gestational diabetes. I am so heartbroken as I truly want a natural birth. Is there any chance I can still birth naturally?"

    (Answer: yes.)

    Note, in particular:

"You may also want to ask around and ensure that you have a carer who has a reasonably relaxed attitude to GDM. Your chances of a normal birth are much more related to your carers attitudes to GDM than to your condition. In particular, you need to consider that the extra tests and scans that are often used to check the baby’s condition and weight are more likely to cause more interventions (especially caesareans) and unlikely to improve the outcome for you or your baby."

Follow your diet and your baby will not be to big. I had it with both pregnancies. My twins were 6.8 and 6.10 and my daughter was 8.4. All very normal. I followed the diet to a T. You should be sent to a class through your insurance to learn more about it.
Also, c-sections are way easier than natural child birth. I had two. Yeah, it is a little scary, but doctors do them everyday. There is not need to be scared. You will be okay.
